The Chief of Department

John Greene is the Chief Officer of the Montague Center Fire Department. He was born in Gill Massachusetts, the son of Kenneth Greene Sr., the first Chief of the Gill Fire Department. He joined the Gill Department at the age of 14 as a junior firefighter. After serving in the Army as a Helicopter Pilot, he returned and joined the department as a fire fighter. In 1976 he became a registered EMT and started his degree in Fire Science. In 1978 he became a Lieutenant.

On June 15th, 1979 he married his wife Karen, who is curently a Prudential Committee person for the Fire District, and they moved to Montague. He joined the Montague Center Fire Department in June of 1980 as a Lieutenant and EMT-A. He received his degree in Fire Science Technology in May of 1981. In October 1985 he became Chief of Department.
